Postgraduate Program of the Department PDF Print

Since the 2014-2015 academic year, the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Patras offers a Postgraduate Studies Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology.

Aim of the program is the education, training and qualification of young scientists in the fields of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, to support research and development in novel pharmaceutical domains, as well as the participation of the country in international scientific developments. It also seeks to link the research efforts to the production process, enhancing technology transfer mechanisms to Greek production units, and to meet specific business needs related to operational planning, development and distribution of pharmaceutical products.

The Postgraduate Studies Program of the Department of Pharmacy leads to Master of Sciences (MSc) Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology on the following eight specializations:

Graduates from Health Sciences and other Departments in related subject areas are admitted.

The duration of the program is set at three (3) semesters.

Total ECTS credits required for obtaining the degree amounts to 90, distributed in three semesters (30 ECTS each semester). In addition, MSc students are required to successfully attend and complete all courses, compulsory or elective, of the specialization in which they have enrolled, to participate as tutors in laboratory courses and tutorials, to attend seminars and study courses indicated to them and draw their MSc thesis in subject related to the specialization they study. Lessons and writing the thesis will be in Greek and in specific cases in English.

The maximum number of graduate courses to enroll in all specializations of the PSP is fifty (50) per academic year.

For the implementation of the PSP, faculty members of the Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras, and faculty members from other departments of the same or other universities domestically, as well as categories of teachers as defined by Article 5 of Law. 3685/2008 (GG 148 / t. A / 07.16.2008), will be employed.

The existing infrastructure of the Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras (classrooms, reading rooms, research labs, computer labs, etc.) is sufficient for the smooth operation of the PSP in "Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology." The Library and Information Center of the University of Patras enables asynchronous learning (eclass) and online access to international journals in science Data Banks in other Greek and foreign libraries.

The PSP will work until the academic year 2021-2022, subject to the provisions of paragraph 11, Article 80 of Law. 4009/2011 (GG 195 / t. A / 9.6.2011).

To cost of operation of the PSP has been calculated to 120,000 euros, broken down into categories of expenses as follows:

Part of the operating cost of the PSP will be covered by the budget of the University of Patras and the rest will be covered by sponsorships, donations, research programs etc.

For graduate students who were introduced to the program until the 2013-2014 academic years, the provisions of the previous Ministerial Decision are in force. All matters not regulated in this Decision shall be regulated by the Graduate Studies Committee and the relevant bodies, according to the legislation.
