Research Activities

Α. Physicochemical characterisation of colloidal pharmaceutical forms

Physicochemical characterization of colloidal suspensions [liposomes, nanoparticles, nanospheres, niosomes etc] for drug delivery. Study of electrokinetic properties, determination of size and size distribution and stability of colloidal suspensions. Study of in-vitro release of drugs from colloidal suspensions.

B. Determination of drug physicochemical properties

Determination of ionization constants, partition coefficients [logP and logD], solubility in aqueous media, organic solvents, study of cosolvents and surfactants in drug solubility.

C. Complexation of Bioactive Compounds with Cyclodextrins

Study of cyclodextrin-drugs complexes formation: determination of thermodynamic parameters, effect of complexation on drugs physical properties and in-vitro release of drugs from complexes with cyclodextrins.

D. Drug release from hydrogels:

Study of a] physicochemical properties of hydrogels and
b] release of drugs from hydrogels.

E. Mineralisation and demineralisation

Study of formation of kidney stones [epitaxial growth] and the sparingly soluble salts of alkaline earth metals in industrial installations [Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Sulfate and Calcium Phosphate]. Study of the effectiveness of polymeric and organophosphorus compounds in the prevention of the formation of sparingly soluble salts of alkaline earth metals.

F. Corrosion of metallic implants in biological fluids

Study of corrosion of the metallic implants in biological fluids and the effectiveness of organic coatings for the prevention of corrosion using DC and AC electrochemical techniques.
